Foo Fighters kicked off their week-long residency on The Late Show With David Letterman yesterday, with a performance of Black Sabbath’s 1970 classic War Pigs alongside Zac Brown and now they’ve followed up that performance by taking the stage with members of US outfit Heart to tackle their 1977 track Kick It Out.
Ann and Nancy Wilson, the only constant members of Heart, joined the band on stage, with Ann taking on vocal duties for the song she penned for their second album Little Queen. Her younger sister, Nancy, meanwhile, picked up her guitar, joining Dave Grohl, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear for an epic four-gat rendition.
“I don’t know…we should do this every night,” said David Letterman following the performance. “Every night it’s a party, ladies and gentlemen. Ann and Nancy Wilson, Foo Fighters, that’s all you need to know.” Foo Fighters are, in fact, doing this every night, for a week at least, performing a number of covers on The Late Show with artists who either appear on or inspired their forthcoming eighth studio album, Sonic Highways.
Sonic Highways is also the name of the band’s forthcoming HBO series, which follows Foo Fighters as they record in eight different US cities: Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington DC, and New York.
“So in the episode you hear us interviewing these famous musicians, you’re getting the history of the city, the regional relevance of the music from that city but you also see us putting a song together,” Dave Grohl told Letterman in an interview on last night’s show.
Foo Fighters have also confirmed that the first full tune from Sonic Highways will makes its official debut this Friday morning (AEDT). Yes, Foo Fighters Week is officially in full gear. The Foos and a special guest will return to the show again tomorrow to unveil another, sure to be blistering, cover.
